What is it about NYCs Puerto Rican Day parade?
When I lived in Manhattan, people in the neighborhoods it traversed would leave for the day. Long before the mob assaults that took over the headlines five years back, the parade would routinely be accompanied by shootings and stabbings — and the NY papers reported on more than one occasion that it would generate more trash and cleanup expenses than any comparable event. And now this:Two police narcotics detectives, assigned to the Puerto Rican Day Parade, were suspended Sunday evening after a superior officer responding to a civilian complaint found them intoxicated at their post on an Upper East Side corner during the march, police officials said yesterday. . . The suspensions were first reported yesterday in The New York Post, which also reported that the detectives had been captured on videotape groping women.
