As a former female police officer, I will tell you that I absolutely loved my job but I am glad I am a civilian again! (Left due to being injured.) I use to call it being a problem solver – because that was your basic job duty – to constantly solve people’s problems. It’s not as glorifying as they make it look on tv – at all. Police work is not detective work. In fact most cases are turned over to the detectives. Basically you respond, take reports, control crowds, and are in court alot! You respond to alot of domestic disturbances, walking into filthy homes, participating in drug raids tearing apart filthy homes, and as a female – handling the strip searches for females arrested suspected of holding drugs and going through their filthy clothing and hair! People will yell at you, spit on you, kick you, punch you and of course always run from you. Guys under the influence of narcotics have the strength of three men!
