Joint physical custody is a somewhat more complex custody arrangement. Whereas most custody battles are resolved in favor of one parent or the other, joint physical custody grants both parents an equitable share of the child’s time. This usually means that the child will spend significant amounts of time with both parents. Because a separated couple can live in different cities or even states, a joint physical custody arrangement can lead to very difficult situations. Joint physical custody is sharing of the time with the children. This can be equal time with each parent, but doesn’t have to be. Maintenance In deciding how much support is needed for either spouse, a judge thinks about: how long the husband and wife have been married; the ages of the husband and wife; their health; their work and what they earn; and what money or property they have.
