What is jujitsu

Jujitsu  is a collective name for Japanese martial arts styles including unarmed and armed techniques."Ju" can be translated to mean "gentle, supple, flexible, pliable, or yielding." "Jitsu" can be translated to mean "art" or "technique" and represents manipulating the opponent’s force against himself rather than confronting it with one’s own force. Jujutsu evolved among the samauri of feudal Japan as a method for defeating an armed and armored opponent in which one uses no weapon, or only a short weapon. Because striking against an armored opponent proved ineffective, practitioners learned that the most efficient methods for neutralizing an enemy took the form of pins, joint locks, and throws. These techniques were developed around the principle of using an attacker’s energy against him, rather than directly opposing it.

Jujitsu is a centuries-old system of unarmed combat, formulated and practiced by the Samurai warriors of feudal Japan. Many modern martial arts (Judo, Aikido, Ninjitsu, Hapkido, Kempo, Krav Maga and even some systems of Karate) have their roots in Jujitsu. Historically, this art was also known as Taijutsu and Hakuda. There is no “official” way to spell Jujitsu, and you may find it presented as Jujutsu, Ju-jutsu, Ju-Jitsu, Jiu-Jitsu or Jiu-Jutsu. These are all varied translations of the same word and they are all acceptable. Ju in Japanese means flexible, pliable or “to give way” and Jitsu means “art” or “practice”. Together these words mean “the art of pliability or flexibility”. Jujitsu is often translated to English as “the gentle art”, but this can be misleading as the techniques are not gentle on the attacker. The concept of “gentle” refers more to the fact that the techniques require little strength by the person applying them. The Samurai were professional soldiers and were train

Jujitsu was developed in Japan during the feudal period. Jujitsu is an ancient Japanese martial art that involves grappling, joint lock techniques, strikes and sweeps and ground fighting. In Japanese, the word jujutsu means “gentle skill”. The word is a broad term including Judo and a few other martial arts. All jujitsu includes a courteous and respectful atmosphere, a uniform, which generally consists of a plain white robe and pants, and the abstinence of ostentatious display. Jujitsu also involves no trophies, contracts, tags or badges. Jujitsu involves the incorporation of three different states of mind. These states of mind are Zanshin, Mushin, and Fudoshin. The combination of these elements is said to lead to power, preparation and the potential to excel in this martial art. Zanshin means remaining spirit. The principle of Zanshin is to be ready for anything at any given time. Mushin means no mind and allows for spontaneity and instantaneous action. Finally, Fudoshin means immovab

Jujitsu is a truly non aggressive self defence style that emphasizes escape, leverage, body mechanics and the use of balance to avoid fighting. Where karate teaches one how to be an efficient fighter, exchanging blow for blow, jujitsu teaches the art of controlled escape. Karate practitioners punch and kick, thus engaging in the fight. A jujituska will not respond unless physically attacked and will do so by means of escape, joint lock, takedown or throw. Thus ending the fight almost before it has begun.
