Jeddah is the probably the best city to live in, in Saudi Arabia in terms of weather and lifestyle. As the port city and the gateway to Makkah – destination of millions of pilgrims from all over the world for the yearly Haj and Umrah pilgrimage, it is the most open and cosmopolitan city with a large and diverse population of expatriates. Expatriates, particularly those in the higher salary ranges, live in “compounds” that usually have their own shopping areas and recreation centers. Areas near the sea – along the Jeddah Corniche, can be pricey as these are prime locations for hotels, condominiums and furnished apartments. Those who don’t mind more than an hours’ drive live in North Obhur, where many hotels have their own private beaches.
