Log furniture is reminiscent of times past. When we see a cabin or cottage decorated with log furniture, it conjures up images of hunting for our food and relaxing without the lure of television or other technology, and it gives a sense of warmth and comfort. Log furniture was first created out of necessity. In early America, when settlers were moving west across the country with few tools, they made do with what they had and made log furniture, instead of the more refined furniture of Europe. Settlers were battling the elements and they did not have the time or inclination to make more elegant or refined furniture. Plus, the log furniture was sturdy and practical. The log furniture originally built out of necessity later became popular in larger cities in America, where it gave people a sense of ruggedness or being in the country. Today, log furniture can be found nearly everywhere, but it is most popular in mountain resort areas such as ski lodges, cabins, or rustic condominiums. ...  more

Log furniture is both unique and stylish. A piece of log furniture is built from existing natural wood, or logs. Log furniture is usually crafted in the style catering to log cabins or rustic mountain getaways. The process of creating this furniture is time consuming and extremely detailed work, but the finished product is a beautiful peace of furniture, bringing the feeling of the great outdoors into the home.

Log furniture is designed to the specifications of a certain piece of furniture, such as a table or bed frame. The craftsman will take a log and cut it down to the right measurements, keeping the structure of the log intact. The log will hold its form as it is cut down to size and pieced together. Sometimes the bark is removed from the log and then sanded down and covered in a glaze, or lacquer. This gives the log a smooth, finished look, exposing the natural colors of the wood. In some pieces of furniture, the bark is left on and covered in a protective coating. This style gives the log a completely natural look, as if the furniture was made only moments ago. Both styles are beautifully handcrafted and make a great addition to any home.

Logs can be crafted into almost any type of furniture imaginable. Bed frames, entertainment centers, tables and chairs, are just some of the types of log furniture found in many homes. Log furniture can sometimes be a little more expensive than processed wood furniture, but the price is based on the handcrafted detail and quality of the wood. Log furniture is not processed and holds its natural integrity.
