Lotrimin cream, also known generically as clotrimazole, is a topical treatment for fungal infections, including athlete’s foot, ringworm and jock itch. The blood generally does not absorb the medicine, so it carries little risk of interaction with other medications.FunctionLotrimin cream adheres to and weakens the membranes of the fungal cells, or inhibits membrane production entirely, causing the fungal cells to leak and eventually die.Time FrameLotrimin cream is usually applied to skin twice daily, once in the morning and once at night. The medicine should be used until it is gone, not only until the infection clears. Consult a doctor if the infection does not clear within four weeks of use.Side EffectsLotrimin can cause mild stinging or skin redness. Signs of an allergic reaction include peeling, burning or blistering at the application site.
