Currency trading is buying up and selling of foreing currency. The idea is that you buy up currency that is currently not worth a whole lot (like the yen or the US dollar), and sell it when it is high. It is sort of like playing the stock market, only you’re just trading currency rather than stock. A good example is this: My grandfather bought up $20,000 worth of canadian money back in 1997, when the canadian dollar was very weak. He just sold all of that currency for around $75,000 now that the canadian dollar is much more valuable. Even given the huge swing in the US dollar, it was something like 8% annual growth. Very similar to the commodities market.
