Greenhouse effect means the climatic change wrought by an increase in ambient temperature resulting from higher concentrations of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere. Although solar radiation can still reach the Earth, it is prevented in part from returning to space, wherewith it is rereflected and contributes to a change in climate. The intensive use of fossil fuels is the main cause of the greenhouse effect.
