What is most effective alternative fuel source for fossil fuels?
Civilization “runs” on energy. Without a source of energy we would not have the civilization we have today. Once it was the power of human collective action, then it was slaves, then wood became a dominant source of energy before our present era of first coal then oil. So while nuclear energy may potentially be the most polluting (1) source of energy it may also have the biggest and most concentrated result. What is “effective” to keep civilization going may not be best at keeping the planet going. “Effective” is a funny word that is not the same as “efficient.” Nor does it necessarily mean least polluting or most benign. But it shares with the word “efficient” the sense of “a goal.” Where efficiency is only power in, relative to power out, effectiveness may also include a sense of the expedient. If by using the word “alternative fuel” you are looking for something that is not harmful to people or other biology in the environment the a nuclear option has to be removed from consideratio
