What Is Narrative Long Form Improv Comedy?
“Okay, we’re talking about different styles of improv comedy, and the more you learn about improv the more you’ll find out there’s these different kinds you can study. What I want to talk to you about now is narrative long form. That’s a kind of long form improv, long form meaning scenes that are related together instead of disconnected, and these scenes are connected by a story. In a narrative long form you get to follow characters along a journey, or follow a location or a group of people as they evolve. Narrative long form, you can think of it more like an unscripted play, so you could do an unscripted cop show, or an unscripted movie, I even do unscripted Broadway musicals, where we make up all the singing and dancing on the spot, and that’s narrative long form, so scenes I do in the beginning where you see one of my characters, you’ll see them evolve throughout the show.
