Nasal polyps look like bunches of grapes but are actually swollen skin lining the insides of the sinuses or nose. Using tiny instruments, and in comes cases, laparoscopic technology, the doctor will excise each polyp and remove it for examination in the laboratory. In most cases, the outside of the nose is left unaffected, although bleeding inside the nasal passage is fairly common. The surgeon might use cotton or dressings to stem the bleeding. Patients might have to breathe in through the mouth after nasal polyp removal surgery due to the dressing applied.
