What is New Horizons?
It’s a year round, community based, socialization and recreation program designed to expand the horizons of developmentally disabled adolescents and adults. Meaningful and constructive leisure-time activities provide an accent on fun, independence and normalization. It provides much needed respite care for parents and care providers. Goals of the program: • To improve quality of life and add a meaningful dimension to the participants’ lives. • To help participants develop autonomous behavior, self -expression and self-control. • To provide appropriate experiences to develop social skills and improve desirable attitudes and habits. • To provide specialized programs in a group setting that will maximize personal growth and development. New Horizons is a place to make new friends in an atmosphere of acceptance and provides opportunities to enjoy experiences typical to other non-disabled person. Participants gain social skills, motor skills, language skills, camping and travel skills, and
New Horizons is the first space probe sent to directly observe the frigid dwarf planet Pluto and its moons Charon, Hydra, and Nix. Pluto is a Kuiper belt object, a member of the diffuse asteroid belt beyond the orbit of Neptune, which also includes the dwarf planet Eris. Depending on what scientists decide, they might also approve a flyby of other Kuiper belt objects. New Horizons was launched on 19 January 2006. It passed Jupiter on 28 February 2007 and is expected to arrive at Pluto in July 2015. Pluto’s eccentric orbit puts it between 30 and 49 AUs (Earth-Sun distances) away from the Sun. By comparison, Jupiter is only about 5.5 AUs from the Sun. When New Horizons passes by Pluto, it will continue out of the solar system at escape velocity, becoming the fifth craft to do so, following Pioneer 10, Pioneer 11, Voyager 1, and Voyager 2. The New Horizons Campaign is a planned capital funds campaign that will help Carroll accomplish its mission: B.H. Carroll theological Institute is a graduate level, community of faith and learning, dedicated to equipping men and women called to serve Christ in the diverse and global ministries of his church. To help accomplish our mission, adequate financing is essential for growth, stability and continued success. The New Horizons Capital Campaign has three objectives: • to broadcast the B.H.
