What is Niaspan® (extended-release niacin)?
Niaspan® is a prescription form of extended-release niacin. Niacin (also known as Vitamin B3) should be part of a normal, healthy diet as it is essential to various chemical reactions in the body – one of those reactions is the handling of fat metabolism. As you may know, vitamins are important compounds that are necessary for many body processes, and are not found naturally within the body. Therefore it is necessary to get all of your vitamins from outside sources — such as foods and vitamin pills. And while most people understand that low doses of essential vitamins and nutrients can lead to poor healthy, it’s becoming more clearly understood that too much of certain vitamins can lead to toxicity and a whole separate set of health issues.
