What is one expected to wear to a scottish wedding dinner?
As a man you would only be expected to wear a kilt at a scottish wedding if you are scottish yourself, or have scottish blood, and want to represent your clan. Otherwise the same kind of highly smart gear as any other Christian wedding. Oh and if you are a Scots man or a man with Scots blood and wear the kilt regalia you should go commando, undercrackers are a big no no!
If a certain form of attire is expected of you, then the invitation should tell you. It will say ‘formal’, ‘smart casual’ or something like that. Formal means a dinner jacket and black tie if you are a man and a long glamorous sort of dress with jewellery or dressy evening trousers and sparkly top – that sort of thing – if you are a woman. The fact that it is in Scotland makes no difference to the way that you -if you are not Scottish, should dress. The genuine Scots men will wear their Scottish form of evening dress ( with their kilt) if the invite stipulates ‘formal’. If the invite does not specify formal, then you can wear the unexpected. Wear what makes you feel good, expresses your personality, what you know you look good in. (barring jeans, trainers etc.) Enjoy the occasion.
