What is Pediatric Radiology?
“Hello, I am Dr. Vimai Patel. I am a radiologist at Gateway Radiology in Pinellas Park, Florida. Today, we are going to talk about what is pediatric radiology. Well, pediatric radiology is what what it says. It involves imaging of patients anywhere from the fetus, to a newborn, to an infant, to an adolescent, to a young adolescent. As with adult radiology, all imaging modalities that are employed are also used for pediatric radiology. The equipment isn’t necessarily smaller, but the person is. X-rays, ultrasound, MRI, CAT scanned, nuclear medicine, and other radiology modalities are employed for imaging the pediatric patient. As an example, the fetus is typically imaged with ultrasound while it is still in the mother’s womb. As a newborn, every modality is used to diagnose conditions that may be present at birth and infancy.
