What is Percale Bed Linen?
Percale is a closely woven plain-weave fabric often used for bed linens. The term describes the woven quality of fabric, not its content, so percale can be constructed from 100% cotton, 50/50 blend of cotton and polyester or a blend of other fabrics in any ratio. Any bed linen constructed of 180 threads per inch, ie a thread count of 180 or higher is called Percale and is noticeably tighter woven and smoother to the touch than the standard type of weave used for bed linens. It has medium weight, is firm and smooth with no gloss, washes very well and is generally regarded as the benchmark starting point for quality bed linen. Though quality bed linen starts at around 180 threads per inch, this 300 thread count bed linen will provide superior luxury. This bed linen has a silky-smooth feel, provided by the thinner threads, in comparison to bed sheets and linens made from 180 thread count fabric which will have a super crisp hotel style feel as the individual threads are thicker. ‘Romance’
