What is Plastic Wrap Made of?
Plastic wrap, cling film, or cling wrap, is a thin plastic film typically used for keeping food items fresh in containers for longer periods of time. Common plastic wrap is 0.01 mm thick. What plastic is made of is PVC, which remains the most common material, but non-PVC alternatives are now being sold because there are concerns about the risk in transfers of plasticizers from PVC to food. PVC is still being used because of its ability to stretch and cling to more surfaces. The product was introduced under the brand name Glad in 1966.
