Power-assisted liposuction was first used in the late 1990's. The suction cannula is powered so that it vibrates while it suctions. This technique has its disadvantages and high rate of complication and is inferior to tumescent technique.  more

Traditional liposuction removes fat by forcefully breaking it up with a cannula before the evacuation phase. A Power-assisted machine vibrates back and forth and aids in the removal of the fat with less force. Dr. Trott has found that by using this newer technology she is able to remove more fat in less time and with less blood loss. In addition, because she is not working so hard to "get the fat out" she can concentrate on the more artistic sculpting and shaping aspects of the procedure.  more

Power assisted liposuction is a procedure that uses a power cannula to facilitate movement in the tissue, whereas the surgeon manually manipulates the cannula in more traditional liposuction procedures. This is the latest advance in liposuction, and has made UAL (ultrasonic liposuction) almost obsolete in our practice because it is so much safer. The benefits include less body trauma on the patient, which promotes quicker recovery and faster healing. Email Dr.  more
