What is PROCRIT used for?
PROCRIT is a man-made version of the body’s natural protein erythropoietin. Erythropoietin is .a type of protein called a growth factor. Growth factors are produced naturally in the body and stimulate the body’s bone marrow to produce more cells. Erythropoietin stimulates the production of red blood cells, which are responsible for transporting oxygen to the cells of the body. During chemotherapy, patients may not be able to produce enough red blood cells, resulting in a condition called anemia. Anemia can make people feel very tired, look pale, and when the red blood cell count is very low, feel short of breath. PROCRIT can help the body produce more red blood cells and resolve the anemia.
