What is Riparian Habitat
Riparian lands are the areas adjacent to flowing water such as rivers, streams, and springs. They encompass the entire extent of vegetation adapted to wet conditions, as well as adjacent upland plant communities that directly influence the stream system. Approximately 85 percent of all fish and wildlife species in Washington use riparian habitat. Because of their high ecological value, conservation of riparian corridors through stewardship and strategic acquisition can be one of the most critical and cost-effective ways to conserve fish and wildlife.
