What is Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)?
Every student must maintain a cumulative 2.0 GPA to remain eligible for financial aid. If the student drops below 2.0, he or she will be notified of being put on academic probation. The student will then have one semester to raise the cumulative GPA back up to at least a 2.0, while remaining eligible for financial aid. If successful, the student will be taken off academic probation and remain financial aid eligible. If not successful, the student will be placed on academic suspension and will no longer be eligible for financial aid. The student can then take up to 3 credits/semester until the cumulative GPA is raised back up to a 2.0. At that point he or she will regain financial aid eligibility.
Maintaining Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) means you must fulfill certain minimum standards in regard to academic progress and performance. These minimum standards are demonstrated in three areas: grade point average (GPA), completion of academic year credits, and completion of the student’s degree objective (Maximum Credits). GPA: Undergraduates are required to maintain a 2.00 cumulative UNLV GPA. Graduate students are required to maintain a 3.00 cumulative UNLV GPA. Minimum Credits: You must complete the minimum number of credits for which your aid was paid. Undergraduate Credits Required Full-time (12+ credits per semester) = 24 per year Three-quarter-time (9-11 credits per semester) = 18 per year Half-time (6-8 credits per semester) = 12 per year Graduate Credits Required Full-time (9+ credits per semester) = 18 per year Half-time (5-8 credits per semester) = 10 per year If you receive a failing grade, incomplete, audit, or withdraw from a class, these credits cannot be count
Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) is the process in which the Financial Aid Office monitors whether a student is in good academic standing. This is determined by reviewing the following standards: 1) number of units a student completes each term. 2) Grade Point Average (GPA) for CSUDH (not cumulative DH & transfer GPA) 3) the total number of Undergraduate units completed are not in excess of 150 units for undergraduate students or for Graduate student are not more than 50 units.
In order to maintain eligibility for financial aid, you must progress at a rate that ensures completion of your degree program within a reasonable time frame. In order to make progress consistent with this minimum standard, beginning with your first semester of study in a degree program at the University of Vermont, you are required to accumulate earned hours totaling at least 75% of the number of hours attempted. Your progress will be measured at least at the end of each academic year to ensure adherence to this standard. Beginning with your third academic year, you must have attained at least a 2.0 overall cumulative grade point average (GPA) in order to continue to qualify for assistance.
