What is Smile Design?

Smile design uses available cosmetic and restorative techniques to create your “perfect” smile. The result is a beautiful new smile with comfortable neuromuscular occlusion. Most patients also see an immediate increase in confidence and in social acceptance. For the dentist, creation of a positive physical change in patients is indeed rewarding, but witnessing the psychological and emotional components of work well done is truly exhilarating. Once you've made the commitment to a new smile, we'll start the smile design process. It involves taking complete dental records on you, including diagnostic wax models of your mouth. We work from these models and from more detailed computer images to show you how we can achieve your beautiful new smile.

Smile design is the process of studying your mouth, teeth and facial features and then coming up with a treatment plan that will give you the best possible smile. We don't just take your picture and manipulate it with a computer to change the look. We take diagnostic impressions of your teeth, make a diagnostic wax up, using them to determine what is actually possible to achieve in your mouth.  more

In designing your new smile, we look at the length, width, and proportion of your teeth, how the lips fall, and the symmetry and size of your gums. We use these measurements and other information to create a customized treatment plan outlining the nature of your treatment, the duration, and the financial investment. We find that the highlight of smile design is watching your eyes light up the first time you look in the mirror at the change that has taken place. Our experience of watching our guests react to their new smile is almost overwhelming. We see an immediate change in their confidence and their interaction with others. Dr. McConnell will sit down with you and measure your teeth. He will determine whether your smile is in harmony with your face. Everybody's smile is unique to them and with a few simple measurements or lab procedures we can find that best smile that is uniquely you. He can show you pictures of other people's smiles to give you a sense of how your smile can be enhanced. He can also provide you with a picture of what your smile can look like. You can take that picture home, talk about it with your friends and family, and make an informed and well thought-out decision. In some instances, he can provide a "temporary" enhanced smile, one that you can "test drive" for a while to see if it's the smile you'd like to have permanently. That way you can get used to your new look before you make a permanent commitment to a new smile.  more
