What is Somatic Psychology?
The word somatic comes from the ancient Greek word soma, or living body. Somatic psychology is an emerging interdisciplinary field that focuses on the intersections between the lived experience of the body and other dimensions of human experience and behavior – including cognitive, emotional, interpersonal, and social phenomena. Essentially holistic in nature, somatic psychology approaches the experiencing body as a key element in a dynamic and interactive system, and emphasizes the conscious development, cultivation, and functional integration of the whole person in relationship with their environment.
