What is stormwater and why should we care?
Stormwater is water from rain. As rain falls to bare earth, it is either absorbed or it slowly runs off and dissipates. As the rain falls onto impervious surfaces and runs off, it runs off at a faster rate and carries pollutants such as trash, oil, and heavy metals. Pesticides, herbicides, pet waste and fertilizers are also washed from lawns. These pollutants build up in our waterways and drainage systems, damaging our Santa Clara River and the Pacific Ocean.
