WHAT IS SUZUKI?

The mission of the music program at the Fairmount Center is to create a positive environment where children learn to access their abilities as individual musicians and as members of a constructive, creative community. Parents, other caregivers and children will develop positive relationships in which people communicate respectfully and desire to create beautiful music. The Suzuki program at the Fairmount Center offers weekly individual PLUS group instruction in piano, violin, and viola. Instruction typically starts at age 3½ to 5, but the older child is encouraged as well. Parents learn to play the Twinkle Variations and how to teach their child. Group class meets 2 or 3 times a month, where students learn to play as both leaders and individuals of the group. Parents meet once a semester with the instructor as a large group to discuss the Suzuki philosophy and issues that come up in home practicing and group class. Students are encouraged to reinforce their skills in our Theory class.
