I hope you are referring to LEGAL migrant workers. I employ LEGAL migrant workers on my organic farm. I sponsor short term work visas for many. Cost and convenience is the most important reason. They are plentiful…many want to come here to work. They work cheap. They aren’t particularly reliable, BUT there are always more of them around. I wouldn’t suggest anyone house them on their property (did that one year) as they are extremely destructive over time. It’s better to find cheap motel housing for them. I would never hire migrant workers for any but the most unskilled work and they have to be overseen pretty well. Drinking and drug use on the job is common, so you must watch this very carefully. I fire offenders on the spot. I’ve had retaliatory vandalism because of that policy from time to time. For reliability and higher quality, senior citizens are the best employees.
