What is the Air National Guard program?
The National Guard is the modern form of the citizen’s militia reserved to the states by the Constitution. The Air National Guard (ANG) is a reserve component of the Air Force. The ANG has both a state and federal mission, which is to provide trained, well equipped personnel who can augment the active force during national emergencies or war, and provide assistance during natural disasters and civil disturbances. In performing its mission, the ANG is a full partner in the defense of the United States and its worldwide interests. The ANG includes flying organizations, independent support units and state headquarters located in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Aircraft operated by the ANG include the F-15, F-16, A-10, B-1B, C-130, C-141, C-5, KC-135 and EC-130.
