The ALF appliance was designed by Dr. Darick Nordstrom and stands for "Advanced Lightwire Functional". It is advanced because of the multitude of design possibilities. It is made of extremely light wire that provides exceptional force and support. A functional appliance is one used to work in conjunction with the natural function of the jaws and muscles. The ALF is a set of wires soldered together which fits on the inside of the teeth. It may be made for the upper or lower arch.
