The USA doesn’t really use the star rating system, though private organizations (like AAA) rate hotels. Hotels & motels are heavily regulated almost everywhere in the country and you almost have to deliberately choose a run-down property to get a “filthy room”. I am sure there is an average cost for hotel rooms in Florida, but the number is meaningless. The cost depends too much on location and timing. Beach hotels are quite expensive in summer but may be very cheap in winter. Generally you get what you pay for, and anything over $100/night will be fine. Note that hotels outside major cities are often less expensive (even $50 per night), but are still fine. All of the national hotel chains have websites you can use to check rate for the dates you plan to stay in the place(s) you plan to stay. For example, Holiday Inn & Best Western are moderately priced hotels and Hilton, Sheraton, & Marriott are generally more expensive. All of them are fine. UK citizens can visit the USA as a tourist
