Average life span of 8 to 10 years is expected, although there are operators out there which last as little as 5 years yet as long as 25 years. It is a case of the more you service your door and opener the longer life you will get. One very important point to note here is, if you have an operator with NO PHOTO EYES on it. It is against the law for a service tech. to work on it. All residential openers must have photo eyes. It is not the law yet for commercial openers yet, but it is coming soon. Think about, your door weights on average close to 1000 pounds, if it comes down on you or a family member, who is going to get hurt ? Not the door.
