I don’t know if there is a definite average. We had one that was given to us when we got married, a used one that was about ten years old at the time, and it lasted nearly five years, it was a Kelvinator. When that went by the wayside we invested in a new, top of the line, (for Sears, it was tops) Coldspot, lasted four weeks and the compressor blew, they installed another one that lasted until three weeks after the warrantee was up, 9 five years) and went out again. Now we have had very good luck with our Frigidair, so far about twenty years and counting. The one in our motor home is 32 years old and still works, and my mother-in -law had a old Leonard for over 50 years, so, I say there is no real limit or average.
