What is the Baptist Churchs teaching on tithing?
Answer Hello Dan, Thank you for your question. There is no standard ‘Baptist’ line on tithing. Some teach that it is a clear command of scripture and others that it is an Old Testament concept that needs re-evaluating in the light of the New Testament. The New Testament does not say a great deal on giving. However, what it does say is significant. First, of course, to be a disciple means God should come first in all aspects of our lives including money. Then if we look at 2 Corinthians 8 we find the following principles: What we set aside for the Lord’s work should be the first thing we decide upon with our income. We should be systemmatic, choosing what to give and planning carefully. We should be generous. We should give cheerfully and not reluctantly.
