What is the Behavioral Assessment of Pain Questionnaire (BAP)?
The BAP is a self administered, multidimensional assessment tool for understanding factors which may be working to exacerbate and/or maintain subacute and chronic non-malignant pain. The BAP examines various pain characteristics (e.g., pain intensity, pain behavior, and pain descriptions), past and currently levels of activity, mood, attitudes and beliefs about pain, active or passive coping strategies, and behavioral responses to pain. It examines the impact that significant others, such as physicians and family members may have on the individual’s current pain behavior and makes appropriate recommendations for successful treatment. The BAP Clinical Profile also indicates the level of overall impairment the patient is experiencing.
