What is the benefit of going into a honors class in high school?

In my school, and presumably many others, your grade for an honors class will go up 1/3 of a grade when you take an Honors class. For example, if you receive an A in Honors American it would be pushed up to an A+, a B+ would go up to an A -. This bump up would not show up on your report card, but would be translated into your college transcript. Your weighted GPA with Honors classes factored in rises greatly compared to your regular GPA shown on your report card. Unfortunately, many colleges chose to ignore your weighted grade, and take out all Honors credit from your GPA, leaving your regular GPA, and supposedly just use these classes as extra credit in the college selection process. Anyway, it’s always good to take Honors classes. You’re writing will increase greatly in Honors classes and you will elevate your thinking and be able to analyze advanced topics. Good luck with whatever classes you take.
