Going to university to study architecture requires you to complete, first, a bachelor’s degree (in architectural studies or some other related field) before you can continue onto the professional master’s of architecture degree program, which, upon graduating, allows you to sit for the licensing exams. This route requires a minimum of 6-7 years of study. If your only goal is to work in the field (like as a draftsperson, CAD technician and the like), but not to actually design buildings, then an architectural tech program might be the better option. However, there will not be as much upward mobility for you as in order to be an architect, you need a professional degree in architecture.
