Aircraft Maintenance is a great choice if you want to travel. It also teaches you a skill you can use when or if you decide to get out. You just have to ensure that you get a guaranteed job as a 2A5X1 – HEAVY Crew Chief. Make sure you get a contract. If your are a FIGHTER crew chief you will not get to fly with the jet when it goes off-station. If you get a job as another specialty like jet engines, avionics or hydraulics, you will not have an opportunity to travel nearly as much. After a year or so on the airframe you will have the opportunity to fly with the aircraft all over the world. The C17, KC135, KC10, C5, C130 all go everywhere, all the time. They need maintainers to fly with them. You would get a chance to travel like you could never imagine and get paid well for doing it. If you get sick of travelling after a few years you can volunteer for a “backshop” duty and knock out some school. The Air Force has the highest education rate for a reason. It also offers 100% tuition assi
