What is the best coaching advice you’ve ever received?
Be yourself. Like I said, I read a lot of books about other people, and I study other coaches a lot, and it’s easy to say you want to be like this guy but to be who you are and coach things the way you do it. That’s been the best advice. Q: Is that something kids can pick up on? A: I think they can. On the recruiting trail, kids can see it; high school coaches can see it. I think kids in our own program here can see it. They can tell when things are good, you’re good and when things are bad and how you can react in certain situations. They can tell when you are trying to sell them something. I think it’s easy for kids to tell. Q: You are ISU’s recruiting coordinator. What makes a good recruiting coordinator? A: You have to love recruiting and be good with the administrative side of it. You have to be able to do both because you will evaluate a lot of film and know the kids we are offering and on visits inside and out, and you better be able to be organized and have a plan and structure
