I personally think to have a strong party you need to have pokemon moves that cover (have the advantage) all 17 types.I also think is very smart to use pokemon that are two types (Ex Charizard fire/flying) and only have weakness to three or less types. By having pokemon with two types you can negate alot of the weaknesses for example Swampert is water and ground and usually water is weak to grass and electric types, and ground is usually weak to water, grass, and ice, but because Swampert is water/ground he is immune to electric, water is not very effective.Which leaves two types he is weak against grass and ice (Ice does normal damage). This is where different type moves come in, Swampert can use ground, water, ice, and fighting moves by teaching him one of each he will be able to take out 12 out of the 17 types. So if you vary your team to have different type moves instead of one or two he/she will be more effective. My Team Swampert Water/Ground Moves: hammer arm (fighting) earthquake
