My husband currently has (and has had for many years) this same problem; with symptoms that are quite similar to those you are describing. His physician finally ordered physical therapy for him. He sees a trainer (referred by his physician) that specializes in this issue. There, he was taught a specific set of exercises designed to target the source of the pain. Additionally, they perform ultrasound therapy and soft tissue massage. It has taken probably 5-6 initial visits and continued at-home prescribed exercise for him to begin seeing results. Often, this type of therapy is covered by health insurance and may (or may not) require a referral. Check with your insurance company to see if your plan offers physical therapy; if it does (even though you’re having a hard time with your current dr.) it may not hurt to ask him/her to prescribe this for you.
