I plant Rutgers, Better Boys, and Brandywine (an heirloom variety) every year. I use the Rutgers for canning and the Better Boys for fresh eating. The Brandywines are the best for fresh tomato sandwiches, but they take a long time to mature. I plant only two of these each year, just for the novelty and the yumminess. Like I said, they are an heirloom variety, not a hybrid. They do not produce as much fruit as a hybrid plant. The blossoms are very delicate and are easily knocked off by heavy rain. But they are one of the best tomatoes you will ever eat, if you have the patience to grow them. They are sweet and fleshy and tender. And they are a lovely pink color when ripe. If this is your first year planting tomatoes, I suggest you try several varieties to find out which you like best. Whichever you choose, remember to: • Plant them in a very sunny location. • Water t
