what is the best way to crate train a dog?
I’ve been lucky, I think, in that my dogs were easy in regards to the crate, but have a friend with a Golden that was a pain. So much for that ol’ theory of Goldens living to please us, huh? Oddly enough, tho’, I think part of my friend’s problem was self-inflected. She was one of those who even while she knew better intellectually, could never quite seem to shake the image of a crate being bad, a sorta mini-jail for dogs. Nevermind that she could visit here and find the dogs in their open crates at just about any time of day, not to mention the same at other friends, it just bothered her. As a result, I have to think her sense of unease was somehow transmitted to her dog. So, first step, if there’s any doubt in your mind about the benefit of crating, come to peace with it.
