What is the best way to teach yourself guitar?

There’s a great DVD and book set that contains everything you’d learn from years of private lessons, but costs only $40. The three DVDs start with the very basics (names and functions of guitar parts, tuning, etc.), then take you through chords, scales, reading tabs (which are sort of abbreviated instructions for playing songs), and eventually through complicated solos. I bought the set after having played for more than 20 years (self-taught) and can’t believe how much my playing has improved. I prefer the DVDs to lessons because I can work at my own pace and review things whenever necessary. And unlike my guitar teacher (I took four lessons when I was young), the DVD instructor never gets frustrated or addresses his “students” like they’re idiots. All of the reviews posted on Musician’s Friend are positive, as well. Basically, it’s like getting a lifetime of lessons for what you’d pay for two or three private lessons. Here’s a link:
