Wolfen,” 1981 This surprisingly scary movie may not be specifically about werewolves, but it’s close enough. Albert Finney — sporting hair that looks like he found someone’s discarded wig in an alley — plays a detective trying to solve a series of brutal murders. The film almost plays like an episode of “CSI” with Gregory Hines — no slouch in the bad hair department himself, sporting a big afro — on board as the forensics expert who is fairly sure those murders could not have been committed by humans. Add a slightly environmental message about the dangers of development (i.e.: you may disturb some awful angry creatures) and a little dose of spiritualism in the form of Native Americans and you’ve got your basic ’80s werewolf classic.
