What is the calibre and background of other students on the course?
The Ancient Scottish Universities traditionally attracted students of a wide range of ability mainly from their own catchment area. The elitism of Oxford and Cambridge scarcely existed in Scotland. Now, many students venture away from their “home” university, but most still prefer to stay within Scotland, especially with the current arrangement for payment of fees. As a result, we get many students of a very high calibre, but also many with more average achievements.
