What is The California Psychology Law and Ethics Examination (CPLEE)?

The CPLEE is just what Psych Prep said it was in the answer above.  What the answer does not explain is that 50 percent of people who have taken one of the last two versions of the test have failed.  In other words, they are failing 50% of out-of-state experienced clinicians.  The odds of passing the second time around are even more bleak – For the last two versions of the test, 77% of people retaking the test have failed.  (Meanwhile, the fail rate for the CPSE is 14%.  In other words, newbies in the field are have a much better chance of passing their licensing exam, perhaps because their exam is easier or has a more fair cut off score for passing.)  The PSI manual does not explain how challenging the questions are, nor do they provide sample questions.  I failed the exam at 31 out of 40 items correct; you had to get 34 to pass.  On the next version of the test, a 31 was passing.  If you failed this exam, I recommend you write to the Department of Consumer Affairs, who are charged with overseeing the Board of Psychology and explain that the Angoff Method used to determine the cut off score for passing is unfair. There is a wealth of research pointing out to the unfairness of the Angoff Method.  I have pursued these issues with the Board of Psychology in CA and with the CA Department of Consumer Affairs; my concerns have fallen on deaf ears.  Strangly enough, the Consumer Affairs division, who initially told me my concerns were worth pursuing, eventually told me that they don’t have any power to influence a "board" and that I should present at the Board Meeting which occurs once every 6 months.  Each administration of the exam will cost you $129 and you must wait 6 months before you will be allowed to retake the exam.  If you happen to have sent in your licensing fee of $400 with the test fee, they will cash that check and not return it to you if you fail the exam.  The only way to get the money back is to forfeit your entire application.  If you want support in this process, feel free to contact me: mydoggreta@gmail.com and put CPLEE in the subject line.  I have a trove of information I can provide you with if you want to voice your concerns about the unfairness of this test or the questionable validity of the test at measureing what it is purported to measure.  In the meantime, Psych Prep CPLEE materials are fantastic.  I am ever so grateful for Sharon Jablon’s ability to make the material understandable.  I still haven’t retaken the test as I am hoping the next version, which comes out in February, will have a higher pass rate than 23% for people retaking it.
