What is the climate in England regarding yoga?
The yoga climate in England has been improving rapidly since I began to practice yoga in 1970. At that time, yoga was a little mistrusted in some quarters—mainly thought of as a veil to cover some religious sect! Nowadays yoga is accepted across a wide spectrum of people. It is now taught in village halls, scout huts, and of course there is “gym yoga”! There are yoga centers being opened in small towns as well as large cities. Students from two of the local high schools in Dorking have been coming here for yoga for six years. From 1970 to now—what a major change in attitude! What are the biggest challenges and biggest rewards for you of owning a studio? The biggest challenge we face at the moment is not buying into the “credit crunch” propaganda. Unfortunately, we have “scaremongers” who are always spouting doom and gloom. At times such as these we need yoga more and more.
