What is the connection between PITO and the eHealth and EHR initiatives?
PITO is responsible for supporting physicians implementing electronic medical records (including hardware and network) in their practices. PITO is one element of the BC Government’s eHealth and Electronic Health Record (EHR) initiatives. Other elements of the eHealth strategy include electronic availability of diagnostic results to the EMR (lab, diagnostic imaging), electronic prescribing (ePrescribing) and up-to-date medication lists. These other aspects of the eHealth strategy will make the EMR even more useful, and cut down on paper that passes to and from the physician office.
