What is the Crime Triangle?
The Crime Triangle is the presence of a person (s) + location + opportunity. Remove any one of these elements and it is impossible for a crime to be committed. Community Policing works through various law enforcement, business, regulatory, and community means to affect one or more of the side of the Crime Triangle. Some examples are, working with Probation and Parole Departments to remove persons causing problems who are on active probation or parole, working with Code Enforcement to remove or clean up dilapidated houses or vacant lots, and working with residents of a neighborhood or community to get them more active and responsible for what happens in their area.
