What is the deadline for submission of protocols for IRB review or exemption?
Investigators requesting full or expedited review of a protocol should submit the IRB application and all relevant attachments to the IRB office no later that the 12th of the month immediately preceding the IRB meeting at which it will be reviewed. For example, submit by May 12 for the June IRB meeting. The IRB meets monthly except in August, when there is no meeting. Protocols submitted for full review between June 12 and August 12 will be reviewed at the September meeting. However, the expedited review process continues without interruption throughout the summer. Applications for exemption are accepted throughout the month, and reviewed on a rolling basis. There is no disruption of the exemption review process in the summer.
